General information

Profoto was founded by photographer and engineer Eckhard Heine and photo equipment retailer Conny Dufgran. The relationship began when Conny sold Eckhard a flash that didn’t work. Annoyed with the failing unit, Conny went home to invent a new type of flash. A couple of weeks later, he returned with a superior unit, and yet a couple of months later, Eckhard and Conny demonstrated the first Pro-1 generator at the Photokina trade show. It was an instant success. Profoto was born. With a bang.

Today Profoto is the world’s leading manufacturer of photography lighting systems. We have subsidiaries and distributors in more than 50 countries, and we constantly refine and improve our equipment, driven by the same ambition that once drove Eckhard and Conny – to inspire and grant photographers full control and endless freedom.
